As part of a practicum, Kohl Kinning ('15, Biology) and Sasha Bishop ('14, Biology) are developing a prototype of a Natural History Collection for the Biology Department. This site would showcase the wide range of biological research done by students and faculty at Lewis & Clark. Kohl and Sasha have worked closely with Digital Initiatives and Science & Data Services Librarian Parvaneh Abbaspour throughout the project to conceptualize the site, create the MySQL database, and build web development skills.

Professor Robert Goldman incorporated the use of Omeka into his SOAN 370 course (American Advertising / Science of Signs). Goldman's students developed a metadata schema for the advertisements, and went through the process of cataloging and contributing advertisements to the collection. Goldman's goals for this project were to get his students thinking about the various aspects of advertisements by cataloging them, and ending with a collection of advertisements for further research.

Students in Professor Jens Mache's CS 393 course (Computer Networks) were tasked to write PHP code to query a large MySQL database. As there was no immediate solution for hosting this database in a networked environment, Digital Initiatives set up the database on watzekdi.net and provided access to students in the class. In this case, the watzekdi.net site provided a quick solution for a technical problem.
